If a house burns, can the owner collect the insurance money and not fix the house despite the fact that there is mortgage owed? Can the owner abandon the house and leave with the fire insurance money?

I think they are great when you have a commission based job/career. We have a fixed interest only loan, so if things are tight we can pay bare minimum and when they are more relaxed we can more than make up for that loss of principal by paying more…….And every time you pay principal your actual (interest) payment goes down…..So over time, adding lump sums will reduce your payment versus paying a fixed mortgage for forever/or until its paid off.

I am on the mortgage and the deed. I am willing to sign the house over. Just to relsolve the relationship. How can I do this? He won’t sign anything. And he won’t agree to it. We can sell the property but he won’t help in the prep or the sale. I make very little a year and can not afford the house on my own. I have a young child thankfully not to him. He is not abusive physically but he is emotionally and mentally but I can not prove it.
Help Help. I just want out. I have an excellent credit rating 800 I don’t want to file BK. I am very credit worthy. I just want my daughter and I to be able to move out.

We currently have a first and a second, but are considering refinancing and would have a lower interest rate and only one mortgage. What are the advantages/disavantages to having one mortage loan?

I was answering a question about tax liens, certificates/deeds, and considering that I’ve never taken out a mortgage, it’s a little blank spot in my knowledge.

In my opinion, part of the blame lies with the consumers; but I put a majority of the blame of the mortgage companies for taking advantage of the consumers. I will take all opinions: Good or Bad.

My sister, a nurse, is off work due to a broken leg and her husband (deadbeat) quit his job just a couple of days after she got hurt and hasn’t gotten a new one in the last 5 weeks. She doesn’t have sick leave or temporary disability insurance. She missed this month’s mortgage payment. She will probably be off work another 4-6 weeks if her leg heals okay. So that means missing at least a second and maybe a third payment. But her doctor worries with the type of fracture she had that it may rebreak after she gets the cast off and tries to walk on it with even a boot. Then he would have to do surgery with plates and pins. She could be off work for up to 3 months more if that happens, which would put her missing almost 6 payments. I don’t want her to lose her house, but I don’t want to give her any money until she is truly at risk because I don’t want her husband to benefit from it.
